esa que cuentan que está más allá,
del millón de pasos en la soledad.

Seguir porque tu mirada es mi aliento,
tus caracolas que cantan el futuro,
tus manos cálidas que impulsan a dar un paso más.

Después llegar, ver el muro,
parparlo y sentir el frío;
hemos llegado,
un paso de no estar,
de que te arranquen de mis manos,
de perder tu mirada y tu calor,
y solo quedarme con tus lágrimas.

Luego soñar con la desesperación,
que se vertebra y se multiplica,
como un virus invisible,
que me termina ahogando hasta dejarme en el silencio.

Tú no lo entiendes; yo tampoco.
Manos, mordazas, luces, grilletes
y al final los barrotes de la incomprensión.

Luego volver con los escombros de la esperanza en la espalda,
levantar las rodillas ensangrentadas,
con las muñecas partidas,
y retomar el camino porque atrás ya no queda nada.

Bicycles and cities

The change is already there and many do not want to see it, a paradigm shift that will change the way we move through city centres, moving from the majority use of cars to the use of bicycles and public transport. A change forced, of course, by the push for a more sustainable mentality, leading us to a concept of cities more respectful of the environment and designed for the enjoyment of citizens, where the car will gradually disappear.

However, there are citizens who resist, like those of my city, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. A city dominated by the dictatorship of the car, which is being questioned by political leaders who know that we need a friendlier and more sustainable city in all senses.

It is true that there is an alternative and it is none other than to encourage the use of public transport. A public transport that is currently not efficient and is not because it has an enemy that prevents it from being so, and that enemy is none other than the multitude of cars that collapse this city at all hours, except at night, which makes its punctuality and schedule go to the garbage and never be fulfilled.

The political leaders have designed an alternative to alleviate, in part, the damage of the car collapses and that alternative is called Metroguagua. A transportation system that will have an exclusive lane that will cross the city from end to end, without affecting the possible traffic jams. Without a doubt, it is a firm bet that they are on the right path to offer efficient public transportation.

The other alternative is the promotion and use of the bicycle. This means of transport has proved to be a valid alternative to the car and even more so in a city such as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the climate favours its use at all times of the year.

The public authorities have understood this and are encouraging its use with the implementation of bicycle lanes in the city. Bike lanes that are soliviantando the mood of many citizens because they do not accept the change of paradigm and want to remain under the yoke of the car, attacking urban cyclists, saying that many do not respect the rules of circulation, but perhaps, they only see the straw in the eye of others and do not see the beam they have in theirs.

What is certain is that a city with fewer cars is a better city and there are clear examples in the world and we, the citizens of this city, must aspire to that.

¿Qué he leído? Terapia amorosa de Daniel Glattauer

OPINIÓN

Ayer terminé de leer la obra «Terapia amorosa» de Daniel Glattauer, que se presenta como una novela, aunque tanto el planteamiento como la estructura es de una obra de teatro. Hecha esta aclaración, decir que la obra, en sí misma, no tiene mucho calado, demasiado simple en mi opinión, aunque con un planteamiento final atrevido, pero cuando terminas la lectura te preguntas ¿y esto es todo?
Aunque tiene a su favor que la lectura es muy ágil, fruto de los diálogos entre los tres personajes, pero ahí se queda.

SINOPSIS

Una pareja con problemas tiene cita con un terapeuta matrimonial para intentar salvar su matrimonio y durante la terapia salen a la luz todos sus problemas, pero la reunión se va complicando hasta el punto de que la solución final es totalmente inesperada.

Euthanasia: a controversial but necessary debate.

Ángel Hernández has been arrested for helping his wife, María José Carrasco, commit suicide. She had been suffering from multiple sclerosis for more than thirty years and, in recent years, the disease had irreparably deteriorated her. She had stated that she did not want to continue living in these conditions.

María José said on many occasions that she wanted to commit suicide; a life in her condition was not worth living, she had the right to die with dignity and Ángel Hernández did nothing but help her to begin that journey.

The video that has been broadcasted proves that her intention was clear; she did not want to continue living and that for Ángel Hernández it has not been easy, but that, above all, there was his wife's desire to have a dignified death and he has done nothing but make that desire possible.

The case of María José has put on the table the need to regulate euthanasia, so that no one is seen in the situation in which Ángel Hernández has been seen; to have to risk his freedom to help the person he loved die with dignity, regardless of the legal consequences.

Debate is necessary. The political powers must take action and seek the necessary agreements to regulate euthanasia, which has many edges that must be discussed, but it must be done.

Spanish society is mature enough to resist this debate and, furthermore, a large majority is in favour of regulating terminal illnesses and even serious or irreversible illnesses.

What cannot be is that we force people to take unnecessary and painful steps, to break the law because the public authorities do not want to enter into a response to such a complicated and, at the same time, painful issue.

It is high time that euthanasia entered the agenda of all political parties, that they sit down and start working to regulate it and that we stop attending this type of event that affects and hurts us so much.

Los libros y yo

Los libros son muy importantes en mi vida, porque ellos me abrieron (y siguen haciéndolo) puertas y ventanas y me mostraron caminos que, de otra manera, jamás hubiera imaginado ni recorrido.

Yo fui un lector de libros tardío, comencé a leerlos de forma regular con trece años. Antes también leía, sobre todos comics y tebeos, que es otra forma de lectura que me llevó a ser lo que soy hoy.

Comencé a leer de forma regular cuando llegué al instituto Alonso Quesada para cursar el bachillerato en septiembre de 1980.

En el Alonso Quesada comencé a relacionarme con los libros, llevado de la mano de los profesores de Lengua y Literatura, conociendo a los grandes escritores que teníamos en España.

Quizás, el punto de inflexión, donde todo cambió, fue en segundo de bachillerato cuando una profesora de Lengua y Literatura nos invitó a participar en un club de lectura, que se reunía cada quince días en horario de tarde en el instituto. No me lo pensé y me apunté. Fue la mejor decisión que tomé en mucho tiempo, porque, a partir de ese momento, mi vida dio un giro de 180 grados, porque mi visión del mundo, que era diminuta, se amplió de forma extraordinaria, como si me hubieran regalado un gran angular con el que podía acceder a multitud de conocimientos que antes no tenía.

A partir de ese momento comencé a leer de forma casi compulsiva, me leía todos lo que caía en mi mano, no solo las novelas de lectura obligatoria que nos ponían en el instituto, sino las novelas que me dejaban mis amigos y las que pedía prestadas en la biblioteca del instituto porque por aquella época la economía familiar no era muy boyante.

Así que los libros y la lectura comenzaron a formar parte de mi vida y no han dejado de serlo desde aquellos días en que los descubrí, con el descorazonamiento de que me hubiera gustado haber empezado antes a leer libros, pero las circunstancias eran las que eran.

Siempre que doy una charla a los niños y jóvenes, no pierdo la oportunidad de decirles que lean, que se sumerjan en los libros porque seguro que tendrán la oportunidad de cambiar sus vidas para siempre. De eso estoy completamente seguro.

Waiting for the wave

No matter which season we are in, Las Canteras is always ready to surf, whether the wind is from the north, east, west or south. The wave is there waiting for you to surf it.

I still remember the times when surfboards and boggys were not so common and we went to the Quarries, to the Cicer area to fatten the waves, as we said, bare chest, without having any idea or the good side, or whether it came from the left or the right.

The only thing that mattered to us was to feed the wave, catch it at the right time to reach the shore, without the wave rolling you at risk that you scrape any part of the body and leave the brakes to live flesh for a few weeks.

But surfing not only had the risk of getting you a good roll, but also had the risk that, with the enthusiasm, the current would take you out to sea and have to go out with the help of the few surfers who were in the area.

Even today, when the good weather arrives I go to the Cicer to relive those good moments, to let myself be carried away by the force of the sea and to feed the incredible waves of the beach of Las Canteras

¿Qué he visto en Netflix? Nuestro planeta

OPINIÓN

Ya comenté en mi entrada El bosque de Chernóbil que había visto el documental Nuestro planeta, una serie documental de ocho capítulos que da un repaso a nuestro planeta, analizando las distintas partes que lo componen, como los mundos de hielo, las selvas, las aguas costeras, los desiertos y las praderas, alta mar, agua dulce y los bosques.

Este repaso lo relata David Attenborough en la versión inglesa y Penélope Cruz en la versión española, poniendo el énfasis en lo maravilloso que son las partes que forman parte de nuestro planeta, pero al mismo tiempo, destacando el peligro que corren los animales que pueblan esas partes porque están desapareciendo.

Hoy, día 22 de abril, es el Día Internacional de la Madre Tierra y esta serie documental pone de relieve que nuestra madre está en peligro y que tenemos que hacer todo lo que esté en nuestra mano para protegerla porque de otra manera sus días están contados.

Una serie documental que hay que ver para reflexionar qué estamos haciendo con nuestro planeta.
