The mailbox of the past

The walks through the villages give me the opportunity to enjoy the landscape and to find objects like this mailbox, which had a leading role in another era, but which, today, has become a testimonial element of a time that, I suppose, will not return.
E-mail has cornered him as new technologies have taken over the world of letters and paper letters are a silent witness to oblivion.
I still remember when I used to write letters to friends, in the summer or at Christmas, to tell them how it was happening and to ask them to write me to find out about them, hoping, anxiously, that the reply letter would be deposited in my mailbox to answer and continue with the epistolary game. Going to the mailbox with the key to open it was exciting, so much so that your heart beat harder because you wanted to find the expected answer.
I still have the letters from those summers, letters that were part of me at a very important stage in my life and helped me grow as a person.
At present, you take your personal mailbox with you everywhere, but you no longer get letters from summer friends, now you get love letters from women or men from the north or south, from businesses you can't refuse, from inheritances from a distant relative that promise to make you a billionaire or malicious links that just want to empty your wallet.
Yes, email is an undeniable advance. I don't doubt it, but traditional mail had its charm, a charm I don't know if it will be recovered in this fast-paced world.

Now that you're not

Now that you're not
I don't have any reasons
to understand life a little more,
to continue on the path
with the simplicity you taught me,
I try to find them under my feet,
in the hands of others,
in the words of encouragement,
but I can't find them.

Now that you're not
I look for you on coffee mornings,
that now smells like your absence,
and, seated, I hope to hear your voice,
but I only get an entelechy of memories,
the unmistakable flavors of the art of your meals,
the warm smells of the rooms,
and the warm hand of your last trip.

Now that you're not
I can't take my knots to you anymore,
put them on the table,
to help me untie them,
and there they stay with your saints,
waiting for the miracle that never comes.

Now that you are not
I think of you and I'm playing with your memories,
trying to understand why life is like this,
and life is you, no more and no less.

¿Qué he visto en Netflix? A ciegas (Bird Box)

Fuente: Netflix

The obituary

I can't believe it, Peter. Now that everything is quiet, I have to tell you.  I can't keep this inside me. Now it's three o'clock in the morning. No one will hear us. There is only your sister, your daughter Mary and me, but they sleep outside. The rest have gone to rest. What have I to tell you? Wait for me to take it out, I have it here in my bag. Look. What is this? Yes, it's the page of the newspaper in which your obituaries appeared. I thought that only ours was going to come out, but what was my surprise when I saw another one dedicated to you and, on top of that, half a page and bigger than ours.
I repeat, I can't believe it. I read that obituary over and over and I still don't understand it. I've come to think it's a joke. I don't know, about some friend of yours, about those you were partying with, who wanted to be funny or about someone who doesn't like me well and wants to make me suffer even more in these painful moments. What does he say? He waits for me to read it to you. My voice trembles.
"My love, thank you for those seven years of passion, love and happiness. Your beloved Elizabeth forever. I will never forget you, Pe."
Yes, as you hear it. An insult. When they brought her to me I didn't know where to put me. Your daughter Mary became like a beast, but then she calmed down. You know what they say: the procession goes inside. You have no idea how embarrassed I have been sitting here, being the one to make me laugh at the morgue. Some neighbors looked at me strangely, as if taking pity on me. I don't need pity or understanding.
I'm going to incinerate you.Verything will be faster. Less pain and less shame. Can you imagine that we would have taken you to the village to bury you? I don't even want to think about it. The whole town talking about your adventure, about what a son of a bitch you've been and about the horns that reach the second floor. I know that. You wanted us to bury you with your parents, but I changed my mind. After what you did to me with that one, what did you want? To take you in procession to the cemetery? No way. When I saw the obituary, it was clear to me. I called the funeral home and asked them if the burial could be exchanged for incineration. They told me there was no problem.
They're even going to give me some money back because the coffin will come out cheaper. Besides, I'm not going to order the stamps for the funeral mass because you don't deserve it. I'm even thinking about not doing mass for you so you can stay in purgatory for all eternity, but I know your daughter Mary won't let me. She loved you very much, she even defended you when she found out that you had had a mistress. Men's things, she told me. A bastard thing, I replied. I also told them that we should close the room and come tomorrow morning, about nine o'clock, but your sister screamed in the sky. Of course, it brings to her that you've cheated on me. Maybe she even knew it. Who knows?
Now that I've told you, I'm calm. I had thought of mourning you for a while, but since you are burned, I will turn the page. A dead king, king put and I'm going to recover all the time I lost attending you like a fool. Ah, I forgot to tell you, your friend Mark, yes Mark who was going home to drink the wines. He always looked at me with good eyes. I knew it, but I let it go. He's comforting me very well and I think I'm going to let myself be loved for once.

A tientas

Fuente: propia
a tientas, te busco y no sé si te encuentro.

The Sinner

OPINIÓN

After having seen the first season of The Sinner, which was quite a discovery, the second has left me wanting for more, with the feeling that it has been left half-heartedly, as if it lacked to go a step further, that it had something left in the way, as if the producers were in a hurry to finish it and did not give them time to finish it properly.
Perhaps the reason for this is a script that does not take off, with a plot that is very interesting, but as the series progresses, is diluted without untying all the knots that are raised throughout the chapters we propose.
This does not mean that this second season is bad, what I mean is that, from my point of view, this second season has dropped a level compared to the first, not only with the level of the actors but also with the story that tells us.
However, it must be said that the series lets itself be loved from the first chapter, captures your attention and invites you to continue seeing it, chapter after chapter, until you reach the end, an aspect that must be thanked to part of the script and the direction.
No doubt I invite you to see it, you will have a good time following the inquiries of inspector Harry Ambrose to unravel the case he is investigating.

SYNOPSIS

Inspector Harry Ambrose returns to his hometown of Keller to investigate the poisoning of a couple by his teenage son for no apparent reason. His return is due to a call from the daughter of a childhood friend who is a policeman and has taken charge of the case. The investigation becomes entangled as the police investigation progresses, uncovering unknown aspects in the town of Keller.
